“Would you be able to help with school fees for a child?” These words, in 2004 started AIDS Moncton and AIDS Saint John on a journey to raise school fees for children in N’Kamanzi, Swaziland. Our partners in Swaziland were struggling to support a community of children devastated by the HIV epidemic – their country has the highest infection rate in the world.
For the past 11 years, we have succeeded in raising school fees for 40-50 children annually. This year, we hope to continue this support. However, we need another $5000 to meet the needs of the children who have asked for our help.
We know that education makes a difference.
It is making a difference in the lives of these children. Here is one of our many success stories:
“Hi, my name is Nilesh, Cebile’s youngest sister. I got the privilege of being sponsored. I finished last year and I have been accepted at the University of Swaziland to study the bachelor of science course. I’m currently waiting for the government scholarship. I would like to thank you and your group for all you have done for my education.”
As Chief Gija Dlamini of N’Kamanzi says:
“…education is a gift that will last the children a lifetime, it is a gift no one can take from them.”
The Swazi school year started January 27th. Children are anxiously awaiting confirmation of their sponsorship. Please help us make a difference for these children!
